Worship/Music
The best way to understand what worship is involves joining in. Worship is more than just singing or preaching. Worship is the act of offering the best we have to God. God gave us his only son, Jesus to save us. In worship we offer the best of what we are back to God. We do that through music, spoken word, silence, prayer, giving of our gifts, media, visual arts and the sacraments.
Sacraments: We celebrate two sacraments in the United Methodist Church – Baptism and Communion. We understand these two sacred acts as an outward sign of an inward grace.
Holy Communion: Holy Communion is typically celebrated on the first Sunday of each month as well as some special services throughout the year. Communion in the United Methodist Church is an open table all who love God through Jesus Christ along with repenting and seeking to live a better life are welcome. Most of the time Communion is served through intinction, which simply means you will receive a piece of bread and you are invited to dip it into the cup and then partake. We use grape juice during communion so all can feel comfortable coming to the table.
Baptism: Baptism is available to infants, children, youth as well as adults. We schedule baptism with consultation of the family as a part of our normal Sunday worship. We understand that baptism is vital to our understanding of the community of faith. Because God is active in baptism it is not repeatable, we recognize baptisms done in other faith communities. If you have any questions or would like more information about Baptism please feel free to talk to the Pastor.
Ways you can get involved:
Musical Arts: We know how important music is to worship. As we open ourselves up in song we grow closer to God through Christ whether in a classic hymn or contemporary praise song, handbell choir or chancel choir music feeds us like little else.
Chancel Choir: a group of men and women who gather on Wednesday at 7:00 pm to sing and rehearse together. They are present to assist in the leading of worship at least 3 weeks each month from September – June.
For more information please contact our choir director Felicia Hall: felicia@hopechurchonthehill.com
Joyful Noise Handbell Choir: a group of adults (youth are welcome) who ring at least an octave of Malmark handbells. They meet each week at 6:00pm to rehearse, they lead in worship about every 4 – 6 weeks September - December or January..
For more information please contact our choir director Felicia Hall: felicia@hopechurchonthehill.com
Diaper Bank:: It is held on the first Thursday of the month at 12:30pm. We give diapers to all who are in need of them.
Hope Praise Team: A small group of musicians who gather together to lead in worship occasionally. They sing/play more contemporary praise music.
For more information please contact Pastor Carol: pastorcarol@hopechurchonthehill.com
Visual Arts: Are you a visual person? Do you love to see ideas and themes presented in a visual form? Do you like to decorate? Well, our new visual arts team may be just the place for you. We are in the process of creating a team to visually create themes and spaces within our worship space.
